Ring Your Bell for Peace Day 2022

International Peace Day Celebrated at Makawao

In the spirit of promoting peace throughout the world, Makawao joined the third annual Virtual Ring Your Bell for Peace Day via Zoom on September 21, 2022, hosted by Honpa Hongwanji Mission in Honolulu.

We shared in an interfaith and multicultural gathering with several hundred participants from Canada, Germany, Ukraine, every Hawaiian island, and many mainland states.  Participants ranged in age from preschool classes through high school classes, and lots of retired adults.

Messages about peace were shared by a Muslim Missionary and a Rabbi-Cantor, along with messages from the President of Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Dr. Warren Tamamoto and Bishop Eric Matsumoto.   Following a minute of silence and five minutes of bell ringing, we were treated to a ukulele concert by Jake Shimabukuro and Bert Ohta, Jr.

September 21, 2023!  Causes and conditions permitting, we may also have a Special Service for Peace Day on the Saturday before September 21st.
