MAKAWAO HONGWANJI PRESCHOOL IN PUKALANI
As we prepare to re-open the Makawao Hongwanji Preschool in August 2020, we will incur new costs to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the students, families, and staff. These costs include: personal protective equipment (PPE) for teachers and staff, enhanced cleaning and hygience protocols, and re-configuring the preschool. If you would like to make a donation to the preschool to help offset these costs, please click on the link below, which will take you a Preschool-specific donation webpage on PayPal.com.
The Makawao Hongwanji Preschool in Pukalani is sponsored by and is affiliated
with the Makawao Hongwanji Mission as an outreach to the needs of the community.
We are committed to providing a positive, loving, safe and healthy environment to
encourage your child's religious, intellectual, physical, social and emotional
development to the fullest potential.
We believe that children develop a strong sense of positive self-esteem with age
appropriate learning experiences that stimulate and encourage curiosity for learning.
Teaching of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism is one of our aims.
Teachings are introduced through stories, songs and craft activities as well as
weekly visits by the Resident Minister or once a month to the Temple.
To provide quality early childhood education in a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist
environment for the Upcountry Maui community.
We offer a 5 day-a-week (Monday – Friday), half day program 7:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
or a full day program from 7:15 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Students enroll in either the half day or full day program depending on space
Our school year is from August though May.
We also provide a summer session, June through July.
We do close on State and Federal holidays, fall, winter and spring breaks, and a week
before and after summer session, usually following the State DOE holidays
Although lunches are not provided by the school, morning snack and afternoon
snacks are provided.
We are located at 223 Hiwalani Loop in Pukalani below Pukalani Park and
